About BlueFire Street Fest:
This multidisciplinary arts festival is an Aladdin’s Cave of Cultural Delights, bringing you “Around the World in 80 Steps”. Founded to connect with, and provide a platform for the wide variety of arts in our now multicultural city, and to create a space where people from diverse cultures could meet, BlueFire Street Fest is now a thriving event in its 5th year. Bringing together over 150 artists, from a mixture of professional and amateur backgrounds, the festival is an eclectic mix of Dublin’s arts scene.
Central to BlueFire Street Fest is Community Engagement, where in the lead up we bring people from diverse cultures together to create an element, performance or art installation for the festival. Many of the young people we work with wouldn’t previously have had the opportunity to engage with the arts in a meaningful way, or had the opportunity to connect with people from different cultures.
BlueFire Street Fest is run by a team of volunteers between 13 – 30 and they work hard throughout the year to transform Smithfield Square into a colourful and stirring celebration of Dublin’s diversity. This year’s festival is Bigger, Better and Bolder, with the best programming we’ve ever had and even more members of Dublin’s inner-city communities involved in creating it.
#BlueFire17 Street Fest’s first edition took place in Wolfe Tone Square with about 3,000 visitors. We transitioned to Smithfield Square the following year and started offering more activities and performances. Today, the festival is the flagship event of BlueFire (the organisation), attracting over 10,000 people on an annual basis.
This continues to be an incredible journey for us all and we are grateful to everyone who has supported us throughout this journey. We can’t wait to celebrate the 5th #BlueFire17 Street Fest with you on 16th September 2017!
